At the Lanzarote Golf Course in Puerto del Carmen, golf lovers can fully enjoy their sport with breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. Today we would like to learn more about this golf paradise at first hand. Adrián Bádena, the director of Lanzarote Golf, who knows the course better than anyone else, tells us today, why Lanzarote Golf is an indispensable golf stop on Lanzarote for all golf lovers.

What does Lanzarote offer as a golf destination for senior golfers?

"Lanzarote, the paradisiacal island of a hundred volcanoes (it is known as such, but in fact there are more than one hundred volcanoes here), is one of the few tourist areas in Spain that over the last few decades has experienced a sustainable growth and is more focused on quality than on quantity. There are several Natural Parks, landscapes protected by the UNESCO, such as La Geria, or the spectacular Timanfaya National Park. As well, Lanzarote is designated as a Biosphere Reserve. The excellent weather conditions throughout the year (you can play golf in shorts and short sleeves the whole year round), the tranquillity, the non-existent tourist overcrowding and its two golf courses make Lanzarote an ideal destination to play golf and to escape from the daily routine.”

What is the special charm of this golf course, which is managed by you, and what makes it so unique and exclusive especially for senior golfers?

"As far as I know there are not so many golf courses in the world that are surrounded by volcanoes and volcanic ash (which we call Picón), and from which you can enjoy wonderful views over the Atlantic Ocean at any moment. Those facts alone make it pretty exclusive, don't they?

The course was designed by the renowned American golf course architect Ron Kirby, head designer of Jack Nicklaus Design. It has been designed with great attention to the details, including the original Lanzarote landscape with its undulating terrain and the old natural stone walls. It is a very open course with few trees, wide ranges, extensive greens and few bunkers. The main idea was to create an environment in which the golfer can enjoy his sport, in which he can have fun and live a great experience that will remain in his memory for a long time, or to come back again full of enthusiasm. And in fact: we can register more and more repeaters among the senior golfers. Finally, I would like to mention an innovation that has been very well received: This year we installed new orange tee markers for par 5 and 4 right at the beginning to facilitate the game for players in the category "Super Seniors" or high handicap players."

From today's perspective, this event has established itself very well on a national level and has become a sports event on Lanzarote that no local golfer or finalist of the Lanzarote Golf Tour wants to miss.
